Castaway Island Preserve

Post by SlotEnthusiast » Wed Feb 19, 2020 11:19 am

Has anyone fished this launch before?

I see people fishing off of the dock and after talking to them they seem to only catch rat reds and very small flounder so this might not be a very good area. Just curious if anyone has ever fished it and had any luck?

ps. I plan on fishing it anyways and I am not looking for anyone's secret spots..

If you have a kayak, it's a decent place to go. It's very shallow on low tide.

I sometimes fish there. Last time out I noticed a fair amount of seaweed which makes me think there is too much fertilizer runoff (no fish caught my last 2 times there). Last year I was consistently catching trout in the ICW directly across from the Castaway launch. I put in at the public boat ramp by Safe Harbor. There is a place to launch kayaks away from the main boat ramps. unfortunately sometimes the parking lot fills up with boaters and restaurant goers.
