Yep 20minutes from my house . To sad but I have a feeling things are going to change for the good. That's one of the local economy engines for the area for sure.

Yeah a buddy of mine at work was planning a trip to IRL in a few weeks until I showed him the pictures of the fish kill. Sad indeed.

Algae bloom changed fishing dramatically. It s so dirty its very hard to sight fish. Few months back we could choose fish we wanted...Now its soaking mullet on the bottom mostly....
In case you haven’t noticed, there really are some enormous and enormously fragile egos in fishing. I can tell you that having a big ego is like owning one of those huge dogs that crap on the floor and eat the couch if they don’t get constant attention.

I was communicating with someone in that are that is very tuned in to the problems and they feel that many mistakes in management and engineering over the years for the lagoon region has reached the point of no return and the fishery there may suffer for many years. Sad if it comes to fruition.

I was talking to a friend who is from Titusville, and he was down there recently. His theory is that there were three things that contributed to this.
1) lots of rain, which brought a lot of nutrients into the water
2) a mild winter that didn't kill back the algae
3) lots of northeasterly winds, which create a low tide like condition in the lagoon.
His last insight was a little ominous for us. The headwaters of the St Johns River are in that area...and got the same runoff and nutrient loading. He thinks we will see the "Green Monster" again this summer.
