So I've been working on an affordable wireless lighting solution for my kayaks. Last night I finally started on a multiple part rigging expedition!
The first thing I built was a 5 ft , 360° light pole that is USCG compliant. I managed to keep the build around $30 but it could be done for less!
Materials:
-10' piece of 1" schedule 40 PVC $5
- Roll of reflective tape $8
-Clevis pins $4
- SeaSense 360° stern light $20

I'm also planning on putting some lights in the hull to illuminate the entire kayak as well

After a bit of confusion as to how you mounted the light on the pole, I think I got it...
You unbolted the clamping mechanism and stuck the entire metal rod into the pvc....
Dang, I was thinking something totally different, like there was a hole in the bottom of the light that slid down over the top of the pvc.

Yea I drilled a hole through the PVC and used the clevis pin to hold the rod in.

Im makin one too haha.got the light from academy.its gonna be funny if we see eachother paddlin around in the dark with a 5' light stickin out lol

I'll also have a 450 lumen led camping lantern hanging off an old surf rod as well or use that handy dandy little clevis pin to hang the lantern from; I'm guessing that it will have a little sway as my kayak rolls along at night.

Seriously, well done. I imagine it would have cost quite a bit to purchase a lighting setup.
