frustration

I've been tying a few small poppers for brim while waiting for the bass to start nesting in our ponds at work. I went out today to play with a new popper I tied. Low and behold there were large bass everywhere swimming around some fresh nests that had been made in the shallows. I could not get even one bass to look at the popper as it came over their heads. I'll be back during my break today with my rubber worms on my spinning rod. I think they may take it as an insult dragging the worms through their nests and hopefully latch on. Either that or tie up what looks like a sinking worm for a fly and give it a go.

Put Wolly in front of them or Y2K shrimp and just drag it slowly they will destroy it :) I never had luck with nesting bass and top water unless low light conditions.

I did finally entice this pig with a rubber worm but none on the nests were interested once again. I could stick my entire fist in her mouth. This one was on a nest but she hit it quite a way from the nest. Water must be cold, she never jumped and just laid there when I took the hook out, but was in a hurry once I put her back in the pond. Now to try the wooly suggestion on the fly.

I went at them again today with no luck on the nests. Closest I came was dragging a small wooly type fly through a nest and the male came over to look at it. I slide a rubber worm up one side and down the other side of a large female and she didn't move even though it was touching her. I can't figure it out. Perhaps they haven't laid eggs yet and are not in a protective mode. Guess I'll test the waters every few days and see when they heat up. Maybe I missed the window and they were feeding heavy prior to nesting.

My go to bait for Bass on beds is a green lizard. Lizards eat bass eggs so Bass will hit a lizards most often. Good luck :fishing:

I've been fishing bass beds in the cold and have had the fish pick up my worm by the tail and spit it outside of the bed.

I use the white lizards, they work like a charm.

Those fish are FAT!

I hit the lake behind BCO last night while renting the slayer 10 propel and caught 8 fish, but none even come close to yours. Might try with the fly rod tonight, but poppers has been my thing because I am a novice.

All of these were caught using artificial lizards.
