I have had an old Malibu X-Factor for years. I stepped right in the center of the rectangular hatch and it cracked. It is still in one piece but it could be ruined if it's stepped on again. And, I'm sure it'll leak just a little. These things are $100 to replace. Does anyone know the type of plastic used? Can I weld it with a soldering iron? Or, superglue it? Or, is it a lost cause. To try to repair? I'd appreciate hearing from anyone with experience repairing these hatches.

Hey Waxworm....Welcome to JKF and thx for joining!!

Send "KayakDoctor" a PM (Private Message) and see if he can do it for you.
He is "semi-retired" but probably has done them several times in his 15+ years of kayak repairs.....JohnYaksJax

Plenty of plastic welding videos on youtube. You can use anything from a soldering iron, to a drill bit heated with a torch to do it, or there are special plastic welders. Harbor freight carries a couple of types. Also you can use West Systems G Flex epoxy on plastic, with specific directions on how to do so. good luck.
