I had the camera on for three minutes and after 19 hrs it dropped to the last bar.

There's a new firmware version out, dated 06/16/2014 for both v1 and v2 SJ4000 cameras. Since the camera doesn't really have a manufacturer's website, you have to rely on some of the online stores to distribute the update. Foxoffer.com is a Chinese website/store that offers a lot SJ4000 accessories, and seems to be a really good place to download the latest firmware updates. They also explain the differences between the v1 and v2 cameras.

Looks like Gear Pro already has the answer for those who want everything the SJ4000 offers, but with WiFi and a remote. It's the Gear Pro GDV985HDWFGR -- 1080p video, 20 megapixel stills, large LCD screen on the back, remote control, Wifi with phone app, etc.

I was going to buy the SJ4000 from Amazon today then I saw this.Is this the newest version? Does anyone know anything about the SJ4000W? Are the batteries the same? Is the SJ4000 charger compatible with the SL4000W?

The batteries in the SJ4000 are 900mAh whereas the batteries in the SJ4000W appear to be 1400mAh. That's good since the wifi feature is going to eat up a lot of juice. I suspect the battery has to be thicker, but as long as the other dimensions remain the same then the desktop Charger cradle should still work/fit the battery.

That's a great price -- I thought it would be a higher price when first released. I don't know anything else about it though. I'd like to know how much the remote can do. Time to check out YouTube to see if there's a review yet.

Edit: Found some sample videos, but no indepth reviews from the usual sources. The lens on the wifi model isn't as wide/fisheye as the original SJ4000, but the video and still quality look visibly better.

As funny as it may sound to say it, I'm not entirely positive that this is a real SJ4000. Believe it or not, there are actually fakes (a knock-off of a Go Pro knock-off...Haha). The whole design of this one seems too different from the original SJ4000 and wifi radios are tiny -- you wouldn't need to modify the design so much just to add wifi. The fact that this camera is already in America without any reviews of it on YouTube makes me think it's not legit.

In looking at the remote (which just has two buttons -- still shot and video record, with no power button) this seems like the same technology that's in the rather old WDV5000 and will likely have the same limitations of not being able to remotely power on the camera.

I still really like my SJ4000 and it's still going strong with no issues. I've used it for kayaking, kayak fishing, water parks, hiking, horseback riding, as a dash cam in my car, etc. Awesome toy.

There have been some updates to the SJ4000 cameras. Most notably is that there is an SJ4000 WiFi model now (and yes, it's called SJ4000 WiFi). It's a little over $100 on eBay and such.

But here's some significant info: Apparently the SJ4000 has gotten so popular as a GoPro alternative/knock-off that there are now actually SJ4000 knock-offs. A Chinese copy of the Chinese copy...go figure! But it's important to note that the SJ4000 WiFi is called just that and NOT the SJ5000 or anything else. Also, the real SJ4000 manufacturer is now putting "SJCAM" on the front right bottom corner of the camera -- even for the models without WiFi, and I believe that has now become their trademarked namebrand.

I'm not really interested in getting the WiFi model. I mean, if get another SJ4000 I might get it because they're about the same price, but I most likely will seldom use the WiFi feature.
