I haven’t been out in the kayak since my last fishing post back in November. Pretty decent bite today. I caught a mixed bag of Reds, Trout, Black Drum, Jacks, a mangled Blue Fish, and lots of Lady Fish. Brought home a Red and a Black Drum for the grill. The fish were scattered, and all were caught with Gulps, mostly close to the bottom.

Hey Mudfish....Nice to see you out catching them again, and appears that you had a "target fish slam" and a "trash fish slam" too!!!

Wonder what took a hunk outta that bluefish....maybe a bigger cousin did it!!
Thanks for sharing....John

Great report and pics of a productive day on the water. Nice work and thanks for the post. Those Gulps do the trick. Smoke is one of my favorite colors and is a steady producer.

Thanks John and Ron!

It was a fairly active day: 6 Trout, 3 Reds, 2 Jacks, 1 Black Drum, 95% of a Blue Fish, and at least 8 Lady Fish. I could have easily caught twice as many Lady Fish, but they were destroying my Gulp$ and $eaguar leader so I left the school to search for other species.

That ZOMBIE Blue Fish fought surprisingly well for being so torn-up.

Great pictures! Reminded me of growing up in Jax. That Bluefish had a close encounter, huh?

Thanks QDOG & olcaptain!

Nice meeting you as well. You are welcome to take my Slayer for a "spin" next time you see me. Would be good for you to see how it behaves while completely rigged and loaded down with gear. There are several other spots I will be fishing over the next few weekends, but that spot is part of my regular rotation, so I'll be back there soon.

That Blue Fish could have been attacked by any number of predators. In that creek I regularly see porpoises, gators, and otters, but like John said maybe another Blue Fish bit it.

I kept one Redfish and one Black Drum. After they calmed down a bit, and while still alive, I bled them in the cooler full of ice. When I cooked them, the fillets were very white and not fishy tasting at all. Very mild taste, even the belly meat was not fishy. I haven't been doing that with inshore species, but I will be bleeding them from now on. Makes a mess in the cooler, like Hawaiian Punch on ice, but the fillets definitely tastes better.

Nice report!

I'm surprised you got a Black Drum on artificial.
