New flounder hole
Decided to take the day off from work on Wednesday, and try to get in some fishing before the heat wave hit for the rest of the week. After looking at the tides, I decided to hit an area I have been trying to dial in over the past few months. As soon as I put in at the boat ramp, I noticed the small shrimp just jumping all over the place, and I felt that was a good sign. I came up on the first spot, and I noticed reds just crushing the shrimp up against a few oyster beds. It was still kind of shallow to get as close as I wanted to, but I started off throwing the One Knocker Spook Trout Pattern as close as I could, but with no success. I decided to go with my new favorite bait of an Orange 1/8oz SureSet Jighead (Thanx Eddie for making it), with a Slayer S.S.T. Fire Tail Series, Tiger Bait pattern. First cast at an oyster bed, and BAM! 21.5" red, next cast a 13.5" flounder. I figured it really wasn't something to brag about, but I can't remember the last time I got a slam of any size, so I went off to a trout spot, and I caught a small trout. I had some problems with my rudder cable, but I felt comfortable enough to continue since the weather was nice, and I'm glad I did. The tide had moved in, so I started fishing the grass lines, and pot holes along the way. I stuck with my SureSet/Slayer combo dragging it across the bottom, but all I was bringing back was a mess to clean off, and it seemed that I scared a few fish off as this mess came near them. So I decided to speed up my retrieval to keep it just off the bottom. I ended up catching 7 flounder, with my four biggest being the one I mentioned earlier, and 3 more from 15-17.5". I had at least 3 more get off the hook at the kayak that were maybe around 13-15 inches, but it was a great day. 21.5" red, 7 flounders, and some small trout for the day. I went through about half the bad of Slayers, and that one SureSet Jighead got pretty beat up as well. I can never seem to get this picture thing right, so if someone could explain to me how to add them without being told it's too big, let me know.
