Sunday Slam
I got out to a Heckshear Creek for the incoming tide under cloudy Sunday skies with very little wind. Winter is my favorite time of the year to fish here and Sunday did not disappoint. I was mostly throwing Gulp swimming mullets and pearl white is my favorite color. I stuck 2 rats early on with the white baits but the bite died right after that. I switched to black Gulps in the low light conditions and it really paid off with a much more frequent strikes and catches. It seems counterintuitive, but the adage of dark skies = dark baits proved true for me Sunday. I wound up with 8 Trout to 16" (mostly small schoolies), 1 Flounder at 16" and 4 Reds. The best fish of the day was an absolute torpedo of an over slot 28+" Red that ran deep into the grass. I was lucky to boat him and he actually straightened out the jig head after having to wrestle him out of the grass and away from the oysters. That was a nice payoff because I had stuck another large Red right before this one but he spit the hook after rolling on the surface to reveal himself. All in all another great winter day of Jacksonville kayak fishing.

Re: Sunday Slam
Very nice, Ron! Beautiful Redfish. Those smaller lures definitely work great in the colder water.

That's a really nice redfish. Good for you Ron
Looks like you forgot to shave Sunday morning.

Thanks for taking me fishing Dad
Re: Sunday Slam
Solid red! I love fishing in low light conditions, some of my best fish come from those sessions. Nice work
Re: Sunday Slam
Thanks guys. It was a great morning and I have some of my best days in low light conditions or on cloudy days. The beard is for good luck Clark.....I am letting it grow out a little.
