Salt Run 10/23/15

Post by captmallyboog » Fri Oct 23, 2015 11:45 pm

I bought a new Malibu Mini X from Strike Zone last month and today was the first time I got to take it out.
It felt a little tippy at first.
You get used to a large kayak and a smaller one takes some getting used to.
I got 2 dozen mud minnows from avid angler it St. Augustine and hit the water around 2:30.
Launched at the lighthouse and went southeast to get out of the wind.
Baited up and started catching right off the bat.
Loads of short trout and rat reds.
I forgot how slimy a trout is and slimed the kayak up a lot.
Managed to get one keeper red.
All in a all a great day in the new kayak.

That's always a nice paddle even if there are no fish. Sounds like you are off to a good start. I don't think trout can enter salt run unless they are 14 3/4" or less. That's the size I catch there most times.

Went back today.
Caught 1 keeper red and 1 keeper flounder.
Lost 2 flounder at the kayak and missed 2 big fish, bad hookset.
