Girl Power and Limits of Black Drum
Got my 17 year old daughter out on the water today for some more Black Drum action. She out-fished me as she usually does. But, we both hit our limit of Black Drum fairly quickly, catching a few Redfish in-between, and then it was catch and release the rest of the day. Lots of action, we caught quite a few fish. She lost a monster Black Drum that waved its broom-sized tail at her about three feet from the bow of her kayak, and then it broke off. Awesome weather and some great father and daughter time.

Great report on some quality family time Jim. Everyone was smiling except the fish. Nice job rounding them up as usual.

Great report and excellent fish. Your write ups on black drum have got me motivated to target them. If only I could get on the water!

I'm hungry. I wish my daughter still like fishing. Looks like a good time with her.

Looks like a great day.
Good company, good fishing, and the makings of a couple of fish fries.
Good for you Jim.

Thanks for taking me fishing Dad
Re: Girl Power and Limits of Black Drum
Thanks everyone. She's an excellent fisherman and a pleasure to fish with, and can be quite competitive. She's got the Black Drum dialed-in and knows how to "watch" for the bite as well as feel the bite. She knows to bait her hook with a "piece" of shrimp and not a whole shrimp, and that she won't always feel them bite, so she watches for any twitch or sudden slackness in her line, and also lets her reel's drag do its job. She immediately jumped out ahead of me with catches, and it stayed that way all day!
We cruised down the creek looking for a nice sharp bend or a decent drop-off, and then we staked-out to wait for the tide to rise a little more. We immediately started catching small Black Drum and small Redfish, so we knew we were in a good spot. Just like the previous three weekends in different areas, as the tide rolled in and the water got deeper, the Black Drum got bigger. We had to move several times to stay on the school, but had lots of action the entire day. Will try it again at a different spot next weekend.
