Watch tower at guana
Hey guys!! So do to family circumstances I haven't been able to get on the water lately! I've been interested in the watch tower at guana, does anyone have an idea on how far it is from the dam? Thanks in advance! Tight lines!

It's about four miles from the dam if I remember correctly. Just a hair over two miles if heading south from Six Mile Landing.

The tower is a great place to stop for lunch, by noon the afternoon breeze has kicked in and there is cover on the first and second levels. I usually keep binoculars with me so its also a good place to sight schools of trout, C.

Crusher is spot on like usual, definitely an easier paddle from SML and fishing between them is solid. I spend a lot of time within view of that tower, look at recent posts for bait tips and you will be on the fish. The river has been good as well a buddy hooked up to ten slot fish and a brought a few flounder home yesterday he put in 8 hrs though and fished both sides of the dam.

On the east shore across from the tower there are a couple deeper spots that produce. Near the little islands

What's considered a deep spot in Guana? I'm just curious as I don't have a depth finder yet and it seems every where I've been in there is pretty shallow.CJ_Tiz wrote:On the east shore across from the tower there are a couple deeper spots that produce. Near the little islands

Four feet is about as deep as it gets, if in fact there are a few deeper holes I would not be at liberty to discuss them, C.

Re: Watch tower at guana
Algea moves with the wind, offshores equal gunked up ramp at SML. It was clear Monday afternoon. Wind was dead calm this morning when I went out at the dam, so should be ok for now. Usual summer pattern of hard onshore seabreeze keeps it open. Its shallow and the bottoms gunk but the surface blooms at least are spread out right now.

I'll let you know this Saturday if the algae is still there . Not going there to fish , will be putting in at 5am for scouting , early teal season is upon us soon

Re: Watch tower at guana
Still dark when I left at SML with the mud boat and headed north . Watch the sun rise and saw some bluewing teal flocks , not big ones . Did see some Black bellies , awesome sight . The algae doesn't appear to be as thick as it was . Of course , with a mud motor you just cut right thru it . Hope you guys caught fish , my only mission was to scout and report on the algae !
