I was going to fish from my yak on Saturday morning but was intercepted by my 10yr and was I "asked" if she could go fishing with me; it more like "take me with you". We left the Yak at home and decided to fished from the shore. Granted, this was my first time fishing from the shore in Jax and her first time fishing saltwater so I really didnt have any idea what i was doing. I stoppped at Academy Sports and picked up some leaders with 1oz sliding sinkers and then went to B&M bait and then drove all the way back to 210. (Note to self: find a closer bait shop). We picked up some frozen shrimp and a dozen mud minnows. We fished under the 210 bridge.

We caught 5 fish.

She insisted that we could not leave until she had a fish to take home.....She was very excited to catch this one.

We also caught another fish that had a very similar shape to a Red fish but with no spots but was more pinkish in scale color....I wasnt sure what it was and threw it back. I was later told by my neighbor that he thought it was a whiting and was probably a keeper.

Funny you say that....she said the same thing the rest of the day.
And she would have had more if she knew how to "set the hook" properly.....those mud winnows were working for her better than my frozen shrimp was for me.

I'm not complaining as I would much rather her catch all the fish and have a good day.

You know what she is going to want for Chrismas, right? Her own Yak fully rigged for fishing with pops.

Great pics and nice job on taking your daughter fishing. I can't wait until mine is old enough to go. Try hitting Avid Angler in St Aug on US 1 just south of SR16. Good ownership and plenty of bait and gear.

The big question is: is there a better place to fish with a 10yr old than where I was?
I chose it only because its relatively close to our home.

If you tie a rope to her you can use her for bait just about any place.....

There is a little pier under the 206 intercoastal bridge. The fishing is not very good but there is a bait shop and it is great when it is rainy since it is under the bridge!

congrats on said shore bound outing with the little lady... when my little piratess be asked to fish with capt'n dad her response be "I aqquiest your request." always a no over tv and mall...

Time to add one more vessel to the fleet commadore
