Boots, shoes, socks in creek mud

Post by jstachowiak » Fri Sep 07, 2018 3:36 pm

Out last weekend and had on socks and my wet shoes stepped onto creek bank at low tide sunk a ways and promptly lost my booty shoe. Low cut. Went with socks the rest of the time which worked ok. Warm weather warm water ok.

Looking at wetsuit booties for winter.

Any suggestions? Cheap? Seems a shoe or boot with a sole is going to get sucked off by mud.

In cold weather I use some (so-called) waterproof socks (forgot the name - Sealz maybe?) and I have some oversize strap on sandals, like Tevas. This mud can conceal all sorts of hazards that a real shoe sole can protect you from. I sunk in the mud one time and lost my flip-flop, then lost my balance a little and had to set my bare foot down in the mud. Huge gash right in the bottom of my foot. What a bloody mess, and covered with that gooey mud. It was a good thing I was back at the launch rather than a couple of miles away. My onboard first aid kit would not have been enough (it is now).

Thanks good points. I’ve got some old sandles I’ll try.
