Need a new rod...

Post by ssramage » Sun Jan 22, 2017 12:50 pm

Well I broke the tip off my budget Penn Battle 2500 combo. Any recommendations on a decent rod to replace it without breaking the bank? Need an all around rod for pitching jigs, popping corks, etc. This is the backup that guests get so it's multipurpose.

Okuma. I've got three and have had no issues whatsoever. Great touch and you can pick one up at ABT for around $60.

If you're using a 2500 size reel, those Gander Mountain Vortex rods that were mentioned would work great. 6.5 foot rods. I use 2 on my Shimano Sedona 3000 reels and love them. Gander Mountain had them on sale before Christmas for under $13 each. They are on sale right now for $20. 1 year warranty. Hard to beat that. Even if you broke one, you're not out a lot. I picked up 2 more Saturday for friends to use that fish with me.

Thanks for all of the replies. I'm going to look into a few of these.

I kind of like the 7' Hurricane Calico Jack Rods. about 40-45 bucks at Dicks I got a couple of them 2-1/2 years ago and they work great.

Uglystik inshore sold in WallyWorld for $50. If you want to go pro status you can pick up a St Croix Triumph from $70-$90
