Shrimping?
Does anyone here do any shrimping?! I've always heard about it and I'm wanting to try it!
So where can I go to throw a cast net from shore and bring a few pounds in?

I'm interested in this as well, but I'd prefer to tag along with someone in the know....I would like to learn from the a master shrimper rather than tripping all over myself. This has worked well for me learning how to fish this area.
I am willing to throw in some cash for shrimp bait.

Re: Shrimping?
I went over the weekend for the first time. I met some friends at their spot they have been doing pretty good at. They showed me the ropes, which honestly, there's not much too it. If you can throw a net you should be able to fill a bucket. The bait patties seem to be the most complicated thing. They used animal feed (Its like ground dog food), salt, and fish meal. Bob McNally posted a good video which is pretty much what they were making.gumby wrote:I'm interested in this as well, but I'd prefer to tag along with someone in the know....I would like to learn from the a master shrimper rather than tripping all over myself. We did pretty good but most were on the small side. I will be headed back out in a few weeks when they will hopefully be bigger. You learn real quick that the small ones, while edible, are a lot of work cleaning and stuff for what you get food wise. Poppin' heads is a pain, all those pointy faces will tear your hands up.
Re: Shrimping?
I went downtown yesterday and everything was bait size and sparse.
I did make some bait patties out of shrimp meal, rock salt, cat food, and flour.
The catfish were all over it. I think I netted more catfish than shrimp.

Re: Shrimping?
We didn't throw in deeper than 5 foot of water. Maybe you were too deep...
Re: Shrimping?
It was shallow, I don't know what was happening. I'll give it a few weeks and they should be larger I guess.
Anywhere near heckscher that yields shrimp?

I had good luck on Dr. Lake Friday night at the boat ramp. All sizes caught. Heard good things are on the south bank and Shands bridge.

Has anyone gone shrimping from their kayak?
