How to register a kayak for a motor
could someone that has registered their kayak for a motor tell me what they needed at the MV dept to get it registered. I don't have a title, do they just use the serial number?
Thanks

You'll have to at least have to bring a bill of sale with your VIN or serial no. They will create you a title there and mail it to you. This is at least what happened to me recently with registering my canoe.

I registered a couple of kayaks and they only needed the VIN or serial #, not a bill of sale. Did it at the local office for driver licenses etc.

Hello first time on here and first time owning a kayak. I recently purchased a Ocean Kayak Ambush similar to this one [url]([url]http://cdn.stripersonline.co ... 130870.jpg). Do you need to register the kayak with a trolling motor and where do you find the vin number for a kayak?
Thanks Ron

Re: How to register a kayak for a motor
I have registered two of them . And yes if you put any type of motor on it electric or gas you have to register it . You will need ....
Hull ID #
bill of sale or your receipt
And the certificate of origin .( if you dont have it just call manufacture they by law must give you one. )
The process isnt that bad if you are lucky and find a clerk that has done this before.
Good luck hope it works out.

I just registered my kayak the other day. I wrote up a bill of sale and had the guy who sold it to me sign it. The company that made it is no longer in business so no hull or vin number. I showed the bill of sale and DMV of course taxed me and between that and the registration fess it was about $54 and they assigned me a hull number.

I am doing the same for my Ambush. There is actually a number in my hull that looks like an engraving tool was used to put in. I will take a pic for the dmv to use.
Re: How to register a kayak for a motor
Yep, that is what they said I had to do with my hull number. I had to engrave it on the kayak. It is supposed to be on the back or on the far right side if there is not back area.
