I used to lurk on this forum and post every now and then. I have taken a seven year hiatus from fishing (two kids, house renovation, numerous transfers and a couple of promotions at work). Seven years is a long time and I really feel like I am almost completely starting over. Well, I am back at it now and have been skunked my first two times out.

The day after Christmas I went out to Brown's Creek. The wind was roaring and it was really tough paddling and keeping anchored. Just not a good day but I was determined to get out there.

On Sunday I got on the water at Haulover Creek at about 12:00 pm. That was about 2.5 to 3 hours before dead low. I fished live shrimp under a popping cork and a Gulp shrimp. I concentrated on creek mouths and points. Nothing. I had one light strike about an hour in. The water seemed pretty active with strikes and fish jumping.

My apologies for the long post but I am happy to be back fishing again. This forum does not seem quite as active as it once did and it also would appear the spring kayak tournament is no longer being held? Can anyone provide an explanation???

The tournament ended several years ago. Mike did a great job for so long. Haulover this time of year is a lures game for me. Just troll a paddle tail and I bet you’ll get some trout. I fished Simpson’s creek on Sunday and is was slow for this time of year. I think all the local forums have moved to other social media.

Hello TweenTheHedges and Welcome Back to this forum!!
You are correct about this site slowing down, altho we seem to add 5-7 newbies per week, altho the activity has definitely slowed down.

KayakMike quit doing the JaxKayakFishing Classic Tourney about 4 years ago. There is a "replacement" tourney that is held in the Fall....and like Jwray said above, they are based on Facebook...named "Linda Nettie Kayak Tourney" or something close and this year will be their 4th year and the proceeds go to Breast Cancer. The group that runs it is not active in here, and the Fourth Tourney will be held in October out of Atlantic Beach.

Sorry to hear that you were skunked in 2 trips last week...it happens this time of year!!
Maybe we can fish sometime...???.....JohnYaksJax
