A Simple Life on Crooked Creek

Once upon a time there was a self-appointed Ol Captain who lived on Crooked Creek. He had small dog, a long canoe and spent most of his leisure time doing what he called “Piddlin’” in the Creek or on his dock.

From time to time the old man and his dog would paddle up the creek with a cane pole and worms and catch small Bream to use as live bait. They would set out two rods on the dock and perhaps a limb line or two. They led a simple but a very content and blessed life and tried never to take their blessings for granted.

It just so happened that last night the Ol Captain took his bride of 45 yrs out on a date. They went to eat and then went to see Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible. As the man reflected on the movie this morning while reading from the book of Nehemiah, he couldn’t remember any curse words at all during the movie except when he stubbed his toe sitting down in his seat.

After the movie the Ol Captain went down to the dock and baited three rods with live Bream he had caught earlier in the day. A new morning brings anticipation on the creek and after his study time the tall man made his way to the dock with a cup of hot, black coffee. As he looked at the middle rod he noticed his line seemed to be way down the creek. That was a very good sign, so he got his landing net in position and began to crank on his vintage Penn.

Soon he realized that this was a fish and not a large turtle. As the salt water rod began to bend the Ol Captain’s 65-year-old heart began to race! It wasn’t too long until he had the 20 lb Personal Best Flathead Catfish on the table and pictures on the camera!

When the man sits down at the table tonight he will give thanks to the Good Lord once again, for his many blessings of this simple life here on Crooked Creek.

At lease part of him will be released to the grease tonight! We will freeze the rest.
