Does anyone fish from a kayak for tarpons? I would appreciate if you can give me some tips on where to find them in Jax - St.Augustin area. I would prefer to stay in ICW or up to one mile offshore. Also, I would appreciate if you know any experienced guide for a tarpon fishing. I am not interested in fishing for them from a big boat. Thanks.

I was out at Jax Beach just north of the pier and the Tarpon were slamming the pods within 100 yards of the beach on 8/9

On the home page, left side column, look under kayak fishing articles and there’s a good article about kayak tarpon fishing. http://www.jaxkayakfishing.com/articles ... arpon.html

Under Guides, you’ll find contact info for Kayak Mike. I’m pretty sure he’ll take you on a hunt for poons!

I saw 2 kayaks fishing out from the Red Tops today. Assume this was you and wish I checked the message board yesterday. We hooked a few small sharks, but couldn't reach the pogie pods surf fishing from the beach. Looked like several good schools of tarpon ran the beach mid-morning.

I fished from Vilano today with a large live mullet on free line. Went from the shore and up to one mile out. Saw plenty of poggy pods, dolphins, but no tarps or sharks. No bites at all. I was there from 7am till 11-40 and did not see any tarps.
I just wonder how does this fish behave? If they come to the area, do they stay for few weeks or they just migraite from place to place? What is the best month to fish for them? Does tide matter?
How about inlets? I think it would be not very safe even if you hook a tarpon on a kayak with all that boat traffic and jumping fish
