So when I lived in Florida, the kayak stores there were more than happy to have you demo different boats before purchasing. Here in PA, I found a shop near me that carries all the high end fishing brands, Hobie, Jackson, Wilderness Systems, Nu Canoe...etc. Here’s the catch, $50 demo fee per boat which will apply to the boat price if you buy it. In other words, if you go demo 4 boats and don’t buy one, your out $400 bucks. If you do buy one, add $350 to your purchase price. This annoys me. I would think they would have a demo model of each boat they sell. Also, if someone demos a boat and doesn’t buy it, it’s still considered new and not a demo boat. Any thoughts? This normal up north?

I agree....Sounds like they need some competition up there to challenge them to be more customer focused.

I get it if they charged $50 and you could demo multiple boats. But per boat is crazy.

They are just trying to keep the riff raff away :)

Curious, do they have a place at their location to demo? Is the test location a quiet pond or on a river with obstructions? I once talked to a dealer in CT who charged for a demo but because of their location, they were required to load the kayak in their truck and haul it 300 yards down to the river and then sit there until you were done so they could get it back up to the store.
