I have recently been on the lookout for a fishfinder and am on a budget. I have narrowed it down to these three and was wondering anyone's thoughts. Pro's and Con's of either.

Garmin Echo 100

Hummingbird PiranhaMax 150

Just bought the Hummingbird PiranhaMax 170 for $99 and I am trying it out this weekend. I will let you know the results.

I called Hummingbird about the transducer and they offered to replace the transducer for a puck style for free if I mail the one that comes with it back. Hummingbird support seems awesome.

I actually just installed my Humminbird PirahaMax 170. I sent the transducer that was supplied with the unit to Humminbird and in two days I had the thru hull transducer., They have an excellent support and tech staff.

X2

The finder worked great for depth as far as I could tell. I wasn't really using it much to find fish.

Too bad to hear that.
I've owned multiple Humminbird units through the years and haven't had a bit of trouble (boats & kayaks). I found their customer service folks to be knowledgeable & helpful. When I took advantage of the Transducer Exchange Program, I received my thru-hull unit in three days.

Most Paddle Yaks already come with a built in depth finder. Its called a Paddle!! Just stick it in the water to see how deep it is!

Yup. I was so disappointed because I really liked the fish finder. I can't remember how many days past the warranty period it was, but I know it was no more than 15 days. Most reputable companies would have repaired the unit again. I wasn't asking for a new one. Anyway, treat me wrong and I'm gone! I too have other HUmminbird units on boats, but I'll buy a crap unit and suffer with it rather than give Humminbird any more of my money.
