I was going through my tackle room last week and happened upon one of my reel stashes. I forgot about picking up a few of the older 3500 and 4500 Shimano B series Baitrunners. Also found a couple of my older 700 series Diawa reels and some 6500 ABUs. Got me to thinking about surf casting again. That's a place Emmrods while fine for casting tidal pools are not quite the ticket for casting into the surf and placing in a holder. Just a tad too short for that :D . When I lived in Central Florida I had a few surf poles but they were heavy as all get out and clumsy to use. I guess that's changed. So for the surf folks who might hang around this site what are the rods in use now. I saw a few at Wal-Mart earlier today but wow those long Ugly Sticks weigh a ton. I would appreciate any suggestions as to surf rods in today's world. Casting and spinning suggestions would be great. I think those Wal-Mart sticks have been around that store for decades.

Jeff, in the fall, I fish the big reds in the surf and use my 6 and 6.5' rods that I used in the kayak. Much more fun on light gear. I usually have the rod in hand and not in a holder.
