leader length

I am making my first kayak trip to Simpsons creek tomorrow. I am bringing one rod that I normally use for trout fishing and one rod with a Carolina rig. I was wondering if I could get some advise on how long to make the leader? Any help would be appreciated.

On my Carolina rigs I like to keep them short in the 10" range to avoid tangles. If I am throwing soft plastics for trout I like a 24" leader. I hope this helps and good luck.
