Started the day driving up and down A1A in Vilano looking for bait. Stopped at all of the usual places. Gate Station, Picnic Tables, Compton's, Lookalikes, Porpoise Point, no luck spotting any from shore. Drove over to the island and got on the beach and finally found a huge school of pogies. Launched and threw the net the first time, banana. Not used to throwing it while sitting down. Regrouped and threw again, pancake! Net is LOADED! Grabbed 8 baits and put them in the livewell and headed offshore. Got to about 35-40ft of water and ZZZZZZZZZZ.........port rod goes off! I pick it up and ZZZZZZZZZZZ........the starboard rod goes off! Continued fighting the first one and 15 minutes later I have a 25+lb king on my lap! Removed the hooks and revived and released her. Grabbed the starboard rod and the fish is still there! 10 minutes later I cut the leader on a 50lb shark. Trolled for another couple of hours but not a sniff. Coming back thru the breakers I became a member of the upside-down club. Now I see why you guys say come in backwards! Everything was tied down so didn't lose anything except a little pride, lots of people on the beach watching. Awesome day! I'm hooked!

Way to go. Very nice job catching a good king. Looks like you have a good setup for going after them. I would be scared to take those expensive Shimano reels offshore. But maybe thats just because I'm really cheap.

Congratulations again on a great catch!

Nice job! Way better than my first couple times off the beach. Your kayak is rigged to a T man. Really like your set up.

Nice catching, though, I would not want that many teeth so close to my crotch! Must have been fun fight those in.

Great report and sweet first king! That may have been your first offshore kayak adventure but I am sure it will not be your last. Sweet looking yak!

Thanks everybody! Believe me, I had a death grip on that lip gripper! Not easy to handle a big fish with teeth and a camera at the same time. I gotta get a GoPro or simular.

Nice catch! And I agree on the teeth in the lap and the need for some positive reports. Its been a slow last seven days but next week should be pretty productive.
