Currently studying to be an OT At university of St. Augustine and really love to get into kayak fishing since its a lot easier then buying a boat. Been researching brands, but cost is main factor and trying to get best one for the money and can upgrade to a nicer one. Trying to spend 600 tops and looking at Ocean, perception and heritage. Heard the perception pescador was just an older model of the wilderness systems tarpon?

Those would be the brands that would be in my price range so far and really needing everyone's opinion on those brands and the boats durability, stability, tracking, total weight able to hold.

Also, don't mind a used one so looking to see when best time of year to buy kayaks and catch sales, display models etc...

I'm 5'8, 250

Thank you in advance

Can only answer for perception, they are very nice for the $. I have a pescadore 12 and have fished out of friends caster 12.5. The pescadore (which is a rebadged tarpon) has a nicer stock seat then the caster. Other than that they seem to handle about the same even though the pescadore is 2-3" narrower. You will need scupper plugs so you don't sit in an inch of water the whole time, that goes for both models. I'm 230lbs so you'll run into the same issue, easy fix though, I just plugged mine up permanently with some nerf golf balls. Problem solved! Check around online also, I heard amazon was selling the pescadore 12 recently for $450 w/ free shipping. Another way you could save some cash is don't buy an angler model. Just get the regular and add your own rod holders, very simple to do.
Durability- good
Stability- so so, I wouldnt try to stand in it!
Tracking- I would say good for a 12' yak.
Good luck!
