Hey Rufio....You are wasting your money if you do not buy the "Plano Guide Series" tackle boxes.....NO...actually you are spending MORE money for tackle since nothing else that I know of is "waterproof".....NOTHING!!

The Plano Guide Series Waterproof trays, and they come in 3-4 sizes and each has different colored latches and also different colored gaskets...and the latches and colors match.....since we fish in mostly saltwater, they could save you $100's in lures and jigs that you might have to replace!!

Good to know John, I'm getting sick of seeing my plugs deteriorate over time.

Chippy....Thanks for your comments, and if you only "save" throwing away 1-2 lures, you just saved the cost of a "Guide Series" tackle tray.....just make certain they say "Guide Series' and that they have matching colored latches and seals....

This is NOT a commercial since we do not (YET!!) carry that series of Plano Boxes.....we have the cheaper ones....????
Good Luck.....JYJ

PS: There is some brand that brags about a "rush inhibitor" in side them....yeah, right.....

As usual John is on top of things. I have several of the Plano waterproof tackle trays. They work great and are not very expensive.

I like the Plano water proof boxes as well.

No matter what type of box you use, don't put anything back in your tackle box until it has been washed and dried. Returning a salty, wet lure to a box, especially one that seals really well puts other lures at risk of rusting. Just something to think about. Take along a container that you can keep all of your used tackle in until you can get it home and cleaned. This can save you a bunch of money.

I have a different take on storage. Unlike big boats, I really don't have room for the giant Plano. I like to take what I need for a day and use worm wallets. The panfish size will keep all of your terminal gear and jigheads separated nicely. The medium size will hold plenty of topwaters and plastics. They are not waterproof though. If you don't take your gear out at the end of the day, rinse and dry it (then put it in the giant Plano for storage) you will have a grand pile of rust.

I keep hearing Waterproof, waterproof. Yes waterproof is good to protect your lures/hooks from getting wet.

However, one of the biggest problems is when people use a lure in saltwater, then decide to change it out for another. What do they do with the lure they just took off.... usually put it in their tackle box/bag.

This ain't good......

It is very important to rinse off all lures/hooks with fresh water prior to placing in your tackle box/bag. Otherwise you will end up with a rusted lure along with other lures getting rusted from the saltwater off the original lure.

Using this method, I seldom find that I need to change out hooks on any of my lures :thumbleft:

Don't waste your money by putting your wet used lures and jigs back into your waterproof plano boxes.....

Heres my tackle management plan........tupperware!

I place all the lures, jigs, topwaters, etc I use during the day in a tupperware container when I done using them then I just rinse the whole container with fresh water when I get home, let it dry then place it all back into it's plano box.

I fly fish, so I have a fairly minimalistic approach to tackle. I use a Fishpond Dog Water bowl. It fits perfectly inside the Orbix cockpit hatch of my Tarpon 160i.

The 'other company that says they have inhibitors' is flambau with zerust.
They work. I rarely have any issue with rust or corrosion, and if I do its because I put an already rusting lure in the box. The rust does not spread...but that one that is already rusted will keep rusting.
Zerust is used in multimillion dollar electronics/switch gear to inhibit rust and corrosion. That's not a zerust ad saying that....that's me telling you that as an electrician that installs switch gear.
The waterproof planos are awesome and worth every penny.....but its a lot of pennies. Ride around with a zerust box with some terminal tackle in it for a season and see if it is right for you. They're typically 7bucks or so. Some walmarts carry them.

I like to save those silica gel packets and keep them tucked in with my favorite hard baits.
