The red bite in VC has been a little slow the past couple weeks with all the rain, but this weekend should pick back up with some good weather and favorable tides.

What I have caught a majority of my reds this summer on is the Gulp white swimming mullet. Also, usually can pick up some trout and reds on an orange or yellow paddletail.

Trout bite has been pretty good, trying top water this weekend at first light could really produce.

If you are really looking to get after some reds I suggest finding some high-marsh (the short grass) either saturday or sunday afternoon and looking for tailers- they have been thick on the 7.5+ tides. I would use a scented lure laying on the bottom or a light gold spoon for that.

hope this helps

I like to finish with Mikes suggestion. Start with New Penny shrimp gulp, Pink or Chartreuse 3" swimming mullet. Those Reds really get lured in by the bright red bead I use in front of all this too! Then slam on a live shrimp juiced with "Jacks". Sometimes they see the bead on the line as it's on the way back in it completely hypnotizes them! Next they smell the gulp see the shrimp and wham! I sometimes just let it sit there for a quite a few minutes and let the Live Shrimp do some "kickin" and suddenly the rod starts to bob! Beats snagging the oyster bed and reed tangles you get into using fake lures. Expensive losses to those dam crab traps too! Pink or Chartreuse jig heads really get Red and Trout action as well.

What ever happen to Florida Boy? He sponsored this cheap lure at "Wally World" in the pic below. It worked! I just don't do a lot of lure casting now days. Bum Shoulder! :( I'm even thinking of selling the box full I have.

Those topwaters in the walmart bargain bin will certainly catch fish!

They will also wear you out making them walk correctly. Spend the 6 bucks and get a zara spook. Or skitterwalk. Or chug bug.

I throw topwater prolly 60% of my time fishing....and artificial 99% of the time.

I don't remember the last time I lost a lure in the saltwater.
