Ok I have a xeterra with a roof rack. I strap it down and am using pool noodles under it but I keep getting dent in the bottem of my boat. They pop out in the sun. Am I doing something wrong or is there a better way. I am not using rachet tie downs, just the cam ones.

Have an xterra as well and always go upside down.
I also recommend getting yourself some rachet straps. The job is much easier.. hook the strap and ratchet on the same side of the roof rack, go once over and back then strap in. Make sure you don't over tighten them, just nice and snug plus one more ratchet for good measure.
used to have 2 kayaks on the roof... if you want to go there, get yourself a Thule j-rack and the roof rack is wide enough to do one kayak flat and one on the rack. Reccomend just getting a trailer at that point though cause its a real pain!
