Met up with Jizzo and a buddy from work today for alittle fun in the rain at Guana River. Got in the water shortly after 6am and shortly after that Jizzo hooks a red on topwater and loses him in the shell bar. :( I then get a small trout on topwater as well. We continued fishing that spot a bit longer then headed south. I picked up a small 13" flattie and nothing more. Then the rain! It wasn't that big'ole fat rain, it was that rain that came in side-a-ways. We decide to continue south thru it and end up posting up on a little cove area. Still raining. Starting to come down good now. I catch a 14" trout on a jig and the rain comes down even harder. We sat in it for awhile and decide enough is enough. We all head back up north. I make a quick detour as I come up on the spot where I went swimming last time. I throw out the jig and bam little trout. I stay there and the rest keep going. Jizzo split at that point, and my buddy from work heads a bit north and anchors up. The rain began to let up and finally stopped at around 1230ish. We start getting alot of activity but can't get a strike. I say to hell with it... I am goin gback to my spot that I feel confident will produce fish. My buddy stays put. Get to the spot anchor up and catch a big catfish right off the bat. By now its high tide and I get the feeling my mud just isn't getting down on the shell bar enough. I slap on a weigh about 4" above the hook and cast back out. 2min later I am hooked up with the baby!!

28 inches!!! She didn't hit it like most. She just kinda grabbed the mud and eased off with it. I thought it was a flattie or a ladyfish by the way the strike was. She didn't fight too, actually was kinda sluggish. Got her in the boat about the time my buddy shows up. He snaps a pic for me and I let her. I start to tell he about the area where I caught the 30" red my first time down there. It was about 50 yards away. He heads over there and within mins he hooks up with a 22" red. After that I only caught one other catfish and by 5pm it was time to get off the water. The storm was brewing...

Plan on heading back out Monday weather permitting!

Luke... you are the master of sticking it out for the payoff. Nice red! After a couple of hours of rain I got waterlogged. The water was really calm on the way back. I thought I would be able to sight fish the oyster bars on the way back but... nothing. Been a long time since I got skunked. :dontknow: still a good time though. We'll have to do it again soon.

Thanks man! The new yak worked great! Probably the best part is that I can kneel in it to pee! Slimmed her well!

Be honest man... I was just about to give it up as well on the way back, but I caught the small trout at my "spot" and it gave me just that extra bit to keep going. Once the rain stopped I knew I could catch one. :D Good times either way! We will have to get back out there on a nicer day soon.

She was a big fat red for sure. Not sure when they spawn, but it looked to me like she had eggs in her. Maybe thats why she was very sluggish??? She put up a bit of a fights, but barely took any drag the others I have caught her size. Anyone have any ideas why?
