ladr6 you should have gone with me today....I tried your thing. Turned the kayak over reaching to far out, note to self....don't do that again. Lost 2 poles & reels, lunch, cell phone got dunked and an orange extention paddle, lucky the real paddle was tied to the kayak. You would have had a good LOL. That current is pretty strong. Did save the tackle box.

Fished the south side before swimming and caught 9 small catfish and 1 ray all day. Anyway made it almost back to the south launch ramp after my swim, I ran out of water 150 yards out and was stuck in the mud for about 45 minutes.

Made it home, so all is ok.

Dang man... I posted that story for you to learn from it, not repeat it! LOL!! Good to hear your ok. Thats all you caught huh? No reds or trout? What were you throwing? Also, not sure where you put in at. Was it at the ramp by the gate station? Do you have a dry bag? If not man you need to get one of those. That saved me big time. Oh, didnt you sit tight and try to get your rods back or just chalk it up as a loss? Looks like the "GR" is starting to get know for taking gear!

I also put in at the dam but fished the lake, not the river. Not what I would call a stellar day of fishing. But after reading your report, things could have been worse. Sorry about your losses and I will keep my eyes and ears open for your gear. As long as you made to land safely(or at least 150 yards near to it), all is good, C.

Thanks folks. I was using shrimp as live bait and plastic shad as arty. Did you. Catch anything in the late? I launched at the park ramp south...

You fellas do realize that there are a whole lot nicer spots to go swimming right??

Sounds like I need to go drag the grapple down the river. There must be a fortune in rods and equipment out there by now. Keep your eyes open for my classified ads!!!

Mostly ratties in the morning, the afternoon bite picked up little but not nearly as well as it has been of late. The water clarity is terrible, I think once it settles things will pick up, C.

What do you mean by reaching out too far? What were you doing that you shouldn't have done? Just curious. I'm not a yak fisherman yet, but I would like to be if I can ever relocate back to Florida. Thanks.

For me, it was reaching back behind me to grab a rod and leaned too far to one side. I was in a "sit in" kayak. Its like a motorcycle, once you go past center line its all over!

90% of all turn-overs are due to turning around without keeping your head/shoulders/back in a straight upright line  Gear loaded in the back of your kayak should have thought put into it regarding how you can access it.

Yes, actually turned reaching back to try and grab the last catfish. I could not get it close enough to the side of the yak and as I turned and reached...went past the center of balance, and went swimming. Next time for a catfish I will just cut the line if I can't get where I want it. You had to be there
