Went fishing at Browns Creek. Not a fishing frenzy. Had to cover a lot of ground, to avoid getting skunked. Also needed some luck.

Floated some shrimp....not good...........ladyfish, some very small trout, and a fish that I never caught before and did not know what is was. So I took a photo, so I could possibly ID it later. Tell me if I am wrong.....but I believe it is a small Jack Crevalle. My first ever.

Stinkpots were all over the east side of Browns. Even though they were pretty respectful, my lack of landing fish drove me to change locations.

I decided to troll all the way to the west side of Browns. 1/2 way to my destination the rod bent a little and I could hear the drag. Reeled in a 15 inch trout. Then 3/4 to my destination my rod bent over and drag started screaming. I thought I was snagged. Tightened the drag further and gave the handle a few spins. Then the drag started peeling more line out. Nice! A 17 inch red. Too bad he didn't measure out. After a few seconds back in the water, he bolted like a bat out of hell.

My destination on the west side was a desert, no landed fish and very few nibbles. Definitely glad I trolled the COC. What I should have done was............fish the area that I caught my trolled Red. Dumb, Dumb, Dumb. Next time.

Question: When trolling shallow (3-6 ft) water.............how far back is your lure????????????

Sounds like you had a plan and stuck with it and worked...and it produced for you....Congrats!!

You self analysis on trolling was perfect....when you catch one, just stop and catch some more, and works great on Trout and to a lesser degree on rat reds.....both travel in schools so stop and stake out and catch a bunch of them!!

Good job....nice pix...thx....JohnYaksJax
