Has anyone watched shark week where the divers wear chainmail suits to protect themselves from the sharks if they bite , well has anyone ever considered wearing a chainmail glove to retrieve that favored lure from a small sharks mouth? I know ill try it because I dont want to lose a 10- 25 dollar lure from whatever I'm doing trolling , top water etc. I wouldn't recommend it with a bigger shark though because the force depending on the shark could probably crush your hand if they bite while retrieving the lure.

How much is your hand....or arm....or life worth???

From AnimalPlanet:

"For example, during one bite test the highest force applied by a single tooth was 60 kilograms (132 pounds). Since it was estimated that the 60 kilograms were applied over an area of 2 square millimeters, this means a loading of 30 kilograms per square millimeter. This equates to a force of 3 metric tons (6,000 pounds) per square centimeter! In practice, the tooth would shatter before actually reaching this pressure. There is no question sharks can do severe damage if they apply the full pressure of their bite, which is often not the case.

Even small sharks, and you said 4-6 feet, can do terrible damage...forget about the lure!!

I agree, heck with the lure if it is that dangerous to retrieve.

If you weigh the price of a stainless steel shark resistant glove against the cost of a few lures I would say that losing the lure would be just the cost of doing business.

Call me a coward, but after talking to a couple of people who have had bad experinces, I feel the same way about stingrays and rigs.
