Hey Guys,

I am new to Kayaking and looking to try some fishing. I grew up fishing near Cedar Key and Suwannee on the gulf coast, but have not fished in the Jax area very much.

I have a 13 year old that has really started to get into fishing and we have talked about trying kayak fishing. We are planning on going to Black Creek Outfitters to try a few out one afternoon in the next week or so and then rent them for a weekend to give it a try.

Any suggestions on places to go that wouldn't be too challenging for a first timer? We live in Middleburg, so it is just as easy to go to St Aug as it is to go to Jax.

When I grew up, fishing for Red's and Trout was a huge part of my life and I want my boys to be able to enjoy it as much as I did. Any advise that you could pass on would be much appreciated! From everything that I have seen, you guys have a great on-line community here!

Thanks in advance!!

Hello Bsmart......Sorry that nobody has responded to your post tonight, but you happened to pick the MOST BUSY DAY OF THE YEAR FOR JKF!! We have organized and run the LARGEST kayakfishing tournament on earth for the last 6-7 years....and THIS WEEKEND is our annual tourney!! Sorry, but most people are attending and/or getting ready to fish in about 5 hours from now...

So, if you really want to get a flavor of what kayak fishing is in the JAX area, bring your son to our JKF Kayak Classic Tourney "weigh in" and awards ceremony on SAT......you can look at the top of each page at "EVENTS" and the info and directions are right there!!
Hope to meet both of you on SAT....????

I work at Black Creek Outfitters and would love to have both of you paddle or pedal kayaks on the 22 acre lake right behind our store...and the link to our address and info is down at the bottom of this page!! We are open Sunday from Noon to 6:00 PM so come in and ask for JohnYaksJax!!

CYA......JYJ

I also just noticed that I didn't post in the right area either. I'll blame it on being a newbie...

Good luck at the tourney all!! Can't make it by today, but maybe we can be a part of it next year if it all works out!

You know the weekend to most of us is time to play not post on the computer. Oddly enough I was busy kayaking on the Suwannee where he is from. You'll find fishing here is different. The water is different the bottom is different. There are tides. Gulf coast has a tide but it is small and comes too late.

Look at a sit on fishing kayak if you are going to primarily fish. Black Creek outfitters and Strike Zone seem to me to have the best selection.

Didn't fish the Suwannee but I did get some fair underwater shots of Mullet. The bass fishermen we met didn't seem to get much either. Before or after the yakers came by.

Thanks for the offer, I may take you up on it once I find a kayak.
