Hello All!

I have not had much success with actual fishing in my creek. I do a ton of cast netting and catch all sorts of goodies but never with a fishing pole. Recently I have netted trout, flounder, alligator gar, mullet, lady fish, shad. The only fish of size out of that was about a 4 foot alligator gar and about a 16" flounder. Anytime I try to fish with live bait the crabs get it no matter what I do. Even if I float the bait so it swims near the surface the crabs still get it (5 foot at high tide).

The only exception to that so far is when I use a larger mullet around 6 inches or larger. The current also rolls through pretty strong. Just looking for any advice and tips on fishing in this type of spot. I fish off of a deck I built right on the edge of the mud bank.

Here is a picture of the flounder I got.

Thanks in advance!

Use arties... I know you mentioned there are trout around. A decent topwater should do the trick. I recommend the SuperSpook Jr.

What kinda technique is best for those? Also, what is the best color option for really murky water?

You use a "walk the dog" technique... you can find videos on youtube. Its not hard, just takes a little practice. As for color... I know people will disagree, but I don't think that color is as important on topwaters as long as the acton is right. But for murky water I like a 2 tone lure, maybe orange and blac or bone and chartruse. I think the color change helps them hone in on in when they strike

You can't go wrong with a 1/8oz jig head and soft plastic. I would not use Gulp though as the crabs love them too. Get a few crab traps they are tasty critters. A few crab boils may dent the population.
