Went down to the inlet to fish the up going tide hoping for some Reds. Was a day of frustration to say the least. Lost a number of large fish. Saved my buddies rod twice today as it clearly wanted to be in the water. Large Sharks and whatever else kept snapping 60# Flouro like it was nothing. Buddy got spooled by something moving fast.
He also hooked into a ray of some sort that went airborne several times. Big monster too. Got lucky that the hook popped out. He wasn't going to land this thing.
Landed a nice Black Tip Reef shark. About 3.5' and a number of oddballs(Whiting, lady fish, Yellow mouth, Silver Perch etc). Decided we wanted something other than Sharks so we tried a new spot. I hooked up to and lost some really huge fish in this spot. First of which nearly spooled my Pen 8500 SS(40# mono) rig. After watching helplessly as this thing peeled off a good 200 yards of line i had no choice but to crank down the drag a bit to brake the line. Felt like i hooked a boat. Lost a few more monsters and then we were given a break and Found a hole filled with nothing but large Sea Bass. Will be going there again tomorrow. Tide changed so we didn't get to enjoy it for very long. We saw a boat sitting next to us killing Bull Reds one after another. Didn't have the right bait. Wont be having that problem tomorrow :)
Biggest of the Sea bass was over 13" and actually needed to be netted. a hoss. Inshore fishing for Sea Bass. gotta love that concept.

Live Mullet seemed to be the only thing they were eating today. Blue crab would have more than likely got the job done too but... had none today :(
Tomorrow me and Arun will be out there with the appropriate bait.

hate to say it, but maybe some of the closures are doing their job?? I haven't really fished for BSB's that much, but from my understanding catching legal ones inshore used to be a fairly rare occurrence? Pretty cool that you can catch legal ones off of the jetties because they are delicious.
