How crowded will it be for the tourny and when is the draw down. Looking for a good spot (read easy unloading and loading for Dad)for my 10yr old son to fish and he minds the gators less than I do. We did Clapboard last year and caught fish, had a good time and made it out right as the storm hit.

Why do they draw the lake down? To repair the dam?

It's my understanding that the severe draw down that was done two years ago was to get the water level to a point that they could do some major repairs to the dam. They lower it every year though but I believe this is more to promote heathy growths of vegatation to benefit the wildlife. The problem is that after they lowered the lake two years ago we haven't had sufficient rainfall to bring the balance of salinity levels back to where they were historically. This caused a major spike in the salinity levels of the lake which in turn killed off most of the grasses out there.

I remember when Guana was beautiful with big stands of cattails, and several species of sub aquatic vegetation. The habitat was in great shape. Now the place just looks dead. The fishing is still good, but the actual habitat has gone down hill dramatically. Hopefully we can get a good tropical storm to set down on us and fill it back up with enough fresh water to balance things out.
