Find dock lights and freeline shrimp into them from up current. Expect trout.

When fishing dock lights at night you can't go wrong with a DOA glow shrimp. The brighter lights, and lights close to the water usually hold more fish but even a dock with no light can hold fish at night. I like to cast the shrimp up current of the light past the shadow line and do one of two things.
1. Keep the rod tip up and reel the reel in slowly as soon as it hits the water. You dont want it to break the surface but make it look like a natural shrimp just going with the current. If there are trout on or near the light they will bite.
2. If im catching alot of small trout on top i'll let the shrimp sink to bottom and retrieve it slowly giving the shrimp a twitch then letting it fall back to bottom.
Don't just focus on docks either. Small bridges can have great shadow lines that will hold tons of fish. Most bridges also have light on the wooden beams that mark the channel and are usually the best light around because they are so low to the water.
As for fish you can catch trout and ladyfish will make up most of your catches but at different times of the year tarpon can be found on bridge shadow lines along with redfish, bluefish, jacks and flounder.
Probly should have said this first but also make sure you are safe as well. When i do out at night i always try to be as bright as i can be so no passing boat can so they didn't see me. The extra light never scares fish either usually you'll have a school of baitfish become your new bestfriends.

Forgot to add that a if you do find a shadow line or dock light that has poon or big jacks on it switch from the DOA shrimp to the DOA baitbuster. You'll find that the big hook, and toughness of the baitbuster works better on those big fish. For poon though the shrimp will get more bites but most of them will end up jumping off.
