Most experienced kayak fishermen will tell you that one of the most hated things we try to avoid is ........ wind :angryfire: I can fish in the rain and cold weather, but I hate to fish in the wind!

The wind will also dictate where you will be able to fish. I noticed yesterday when crossing Dames Point Bridge there were white caps covering Mill Cove. If you had planned to fish MC yesterday... you were screwed

I recently went on line to find a good source for wind forecasts (desktop and mobile). Couldn't believe how many different resources there were. While some of them look good in the overviews, I have often find that once you start working with them, they really don't tell you what you want to know.

Would appreciate and advice on apps/websites you may be using that give you good informantion.

I have done some extensive research on places that would give wind forecasts and this is the only page I look at now. This is the most accurate I have ever seen. Don't look anywhere else for wind! Monday and today is gusty west winds which means cold weather and non kayak friendly mostly. Jax Pier is the only place to fish at this situation and kill the speckled trout and drum :)

This is the 411 I use and it's generally accurate, C.

windfinder is only good when you check the super forecast tab the night before.
For weather and temps I just use weather.com
For rain I use a combination of windfinder and accuweather radar

Anyone use justweather.com? I've always found their forecasts to be reliable.

I use a the wind alert app which is great to project accurate wind conditions throughout the day. I also use this website http://images.surf-station.com for when I fish offshore.

This thread is going to be one of those with a different ansuwer from everyone, like "what's the best fishing kayak?" Which by the way are my favorite threads to follow. :D
I mostly use the weather channel app on my Iphone they have been wrong before but it's good for wind/weather at a glance.
For planning trips near costal/offshore I use: http://www.nws.noaa.gov/om/marine/zone/usamz.htm
I may start using http://www.windfinder.com that Arun posted that looks like a good one :thumbright:

Windfinder had been recommended to me earlier. Glad to see that others like it also. Just downloaded th android app on my phone  Just looked at the windspeeds on the app and they certainly match the tops of the trees in my front yard swaying back and forth :smoke:

Thanks for the input and confirmation guys!

The Iphone App WIndAlert is great for current and forecasted wind. Hit the search button and it will display all the data collectors in your area.

The thing I find with the Wind Finder app is that there are not a lot of specific locations like in the various tide resources. For example, when I select Near Me, the following are the locations that come up:

Fernandina Beach
Fernandina Beach Buoy
Little Cumberland Island
Huguenot park/Mayport
Mayport/St.Johns River
Jacksonville Intl Airport
Mayport Poles

Guess the wind will be blowing the same 10 miles away.

Wind can make things reeeeeally difficult. But lightning literally puts the fear of God in me. Living in the lightning strike capitol of the US doesn't help much either. That's something else to think about while your 3 miles offshore waving around a 7' graphite stick. :shaking:

Come on Jerry. Just suck it up and start fishing windy days like the rest of us. Its Florida not North Dakota.
