The Story:

Wasn't going to post this report but wanted to do it to Just make a point on how many a times, the never give up philosophy pays off. This Friday, I hit the Pier at 6.45 PM with some live shrimp to do some drumming and possibly get some trout action. I did not give any bait away and the fishing totally sucked. Saw a guy pull one keeper trout and a couple of undersized ones. Saw one regular pull up a drum. He had two drum at that point. The guy left around 8.30 PM and gave me one of the drum as he said he had too many fish at home. I accepted it as I knew I can give it to my work buddies. Eveyone started leaving the pie with the fishing being really bad even though the water was clean. Now its totally dark at 9.30 pm and the pier closes at 10.00 pm and I still was trying piling by piling to snatch a drum or two w/o giving up and going home as I know drum bite at night too. At 9.35 pm, my rod bends over and fight and hand line a nice drum over the rail. I had my pier landing net but couldn't see anything below. At 9.40 pm, I get another bite and the rod wants to go for a swim, I fight and line another drum up the rail. At 9.45 pm, I get the biggest suprise of my fishing life thus far. This fish fights real hard and was thinking it should be a big drum or a red. As I'm hand lining the fish up the rail, I realize I had just caught a nice sheepshead in total darkness. This is the first time I have ever caught a sheep with rod and reel in complete darkness. After that wrapped up and left as the pier was closing with a smile in may face and thinking to myself, that was cool!!

That never give up mentality has paid off for me many times. Good job picking up those last minute fish the pier has been slow lately.
