Welcome to one of the most addictive kinds of fishing. I've pretty much done it all from offshore,inshore,spearfishing.. And I would have to say this is the funnest type of fishing I've done. I try and go 1-2 a week hit me up. Im still kinda a newbie myself only had my yak for a year now. Welcome to the plastic navy.. "YAKEM"

Anybody have some recommendations for kayaks to look into.

Ive taken an interest into the malibu stealth 12, tho from what ive seen they are a bit pricy. I just really like their layout and storage.

other than that I dont really know what to look for. been doing a lot of researching and reading and its a lot to take in. Living in fernandina its a drive to get down to strikezone or black creek but i will eventually.

Really looking for a stable yak, Im 6'1 and about 220. Also looking to stay around the 12 foot range so I can still fit it in the bed of my tacoma and not need anything other than some straps.

Im relatively coordinated, and have been in yaks before but they were nothing special and I couldnt really tell you what kind they were. Fished out of canoes a bunch my whole life, so this isnt completely new territory for me. Dont know if I would really stand up much but I guess thats cuz ive never been in a stable yak.

Also price is a big part as I dont wanna break the bank initially as im first getting into this. College Kid funds suck! ahah.

Anybody have any good things to say about the redfish 12. Strikezone is having that deal on them right now that I may jump on.

Does strike zone let you test paddle?

Its not much but Strike Zone has a little pond out front that they might let you throw one into.

I jumped in head first with my first kayak purchase. I just picked up a Hobie Mirage Pro Angler 14 last week. I haven't even had it in the water yet. You're welcome to try it out of you like but I can assure you they ain't cheap!!!! I bought it bc I wanted something stable and with me being 6'4" and 244lbs I wanted a little more boat than the average kayak offered. That being said I've still got my eye on a Jackson Cuda or a Malibu Stealth 14 as a second boat for my wife that I could still use!
Of course I have her wanting a Hobie Revolution 13 so we'll see how that goes!!

Hello Maverick904 and Welcome to JKF...and soon to the Plastic Armada!!

There are lots of good kayaks out there and you did the right thing for telling us how big you are and how you want to fish.
You are at a size where you have LOTS of choices....

I work P/T at Black Creek Outfitters, so please come by and demo some of the 40+ models in our demo room on the big lake right behind the store!! I see you are from FB so let me know when you can make it down here and I should be able to meet you at BCO.
Good luck on your decision and I look forward to seeing you on the water soon....JohnYaksJax

Welcome! Nice to see we're getting a few people from TW on the forums. JYJ is a cool fella to work with, he helped me pick out my last yak.
