Bought a new(slightly used) yak. I am fairly familar with our local creek and river systems, not that i wouldnt turn down some tips ;). The question I have is about trolling. I am learning this after selling my jonboat. How far back do you guys let your baits out, and what kind of arties. I'm used to trolling with a little speed and not sure how to keep them from dragging the bottom. I know this can produce great results, with the right technique. Any tips appreciated thanks

Start with as far as you can cast, then adjust depending on lure weight. Bouncing bottom is not always a bad thing while trolling, don't you bounce bottom with many lures? My go to troll lure is an 1/8oz jig and soft plastic but, it is also my go to lure so i always have one tie on. Just like anything in fishing you got to try things to see what works. One thing for sure is trolling from a kayak works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im not a pro, but here are some things I have found to work.
#1 silver spoon, the treble replaced with a single hook (gamakatsu wide gap finesse hooks are great) this is my top trolling
producer
#2 a paddle tail on a jig head, but suspended under a narrow poping cork, not the big fat cup faced ones. this way you can adjust the leader and it will not drag, even if you stop to fish
#3 a hard plastic jerkbait, the type that only run down to about 2 ft, they float when not being pulled so they dont drag bottom either.
hope this helped!
