I was wondering if anyone had any ideas to share on a livewell for my Kayak, or should I use a flow troll bait bucket.

Yeah I would love to fish exclusive with artificial baits, but I am a novice to artificials, and dont want to get skunked. Any suggestions on what to use?

I use a bait bucket but I'm trying to learn to fish with arties from the yak. I only get one or two dozen shrimp and use them for backup to the arties... I guess thats why I haven't had any good fishing reports lately. :)

What type of live bait are you looking to use the most?

I use a flow troll and it works just fine. I can keep over a dozen mullet alive all day if need be. Just dunk it over the side for new water about every 15mins. Mostly i use arties instead of live bait because im too lazy to keep it alive, and arties are way more fun

Muds are hard to kill you could keep them in just about any container and change the water out like once an hour.
Shrimp are a bit trickier to keep alive especially in the summer heat. Just about everyone on here has a different method. I don't like having a flow troll to drag and slosh around in my Yak and I can't stand the noise pumps make. I like to fill a quart bag with ice and double it to prevent leakage, then I put this in a small soft side lunch box cooler. Put your live shrimp in this cooler and they "go to sleep", take a shrimp out an hour later and they magically wake back up. Don't ask me how this works? I read about it in Florida Sportsman a few years back. The trick is not to let the shrimp sit in the water from the melting ice, this kills them. You still lose a few but, this method for me is very Yak friendly.
With mullet your only choice is some sort of flow troll like device those guys go belly up quick! I honestly don't use them much if ever in my kayak.
I also fish arties most of the time but, I am not too good for old fashioned bait fishing :D
Hope this helps and good luck out there

Personally.....
I use the ice trick with shrimp, and I take a small ultralite with a sabiki rig on it and catch bait as I need it. Don't have to keep them alive if they're going from one hook to the other.

Honestly though I don't hardly ever buy shrimp anymore and rarely take the time to catch pins...... I use 99% arties anymore.

Do a search for bait tubes. PVC pipe and caps. The drain pipe from RVs floats, PVC sinks. It has a lot less drag than a flow troll.

I use bait and artificial. No shame in chunking bait.

I am primarily a live shrimp/ mudminow fisherman, I use a 64 oz juice container with a few holes drilled in it,
attached with a leash/line. The container sinks when not in motion, which keeps the bait container low in the water,
controlling the temperature, works well in the cooler months, not so well in the summer.

I will use arties when I am out of bait, I do find that i catch fish on live bait, dead bait, followed by arties, but that maybe
because of the way I fish.
Disscusions to follow, I am sure

I must second the bait tube suggestion. Hit the search function and you will get all the great ideas you need.
