:D Can't resist this one :D This is one of my choices. Emmrod Combat rod, the version I use and recommend. The rod end is a 4 coil heavy action with the large .50 tip. The handle is an Emmrod Packrod casting version with a trigger. The reel a Citica 200E loaded with 12lb mono. A super topwater setup and also great for throwing under heavy cover or docks with lures like DOA Bait Busters. In Canada each summer this size rig is loaded with 16lb Momoi mono tied to a 20lb fluorocarbon leader for enhanced Redfish Magic style lures. To up the power a bit you could load it with 65lb test braid and leader as you see fit.

Tony, this might be more interesting if you didn't allow brand names of rods in these responses. (Jeff, not intended to pick on your Emmrods!) :beg: You might also specify/limit use (i.e. Red/trout/flounder).

Ask that they ONLY respond with :

Length
Action
Line Size
Lure Size

Me? Both rods would be the same.

7 Ft / Light Action / 6-12 Line / 1/4 - 5/8 oz

Gloomis GreenWater spinning rod - 7', ML (med-fast action), 6-12 lb line, 1/4 - 1/2 recommended lure weight. I absolutely love this rod!!

And baitcaster rod I would love to have a Shimano Cumara in 6'8", MH...currently using a Veritas rod and can't complain for how well it works for the price!

And, if going by the above criteria, I would pick my favorite all around rod to be a 7', ML, 6-12 line, and 1/4 - 1/2 lure size.

I'm not sure what all species you buddy goes after but here is my combo that I take for,

  • Kayak for reds, trout and flounder,
  • Pier for sheepshead, whiting, pompano, drum and bull reds,
  • Surf/bank for casting artificials and natural bait for whiting, pompano, trout, reds, bull reds etc
  • Boat for sheepshead and flounder

7'6" heavy action fast tip Abu Garcia Vendatta casting rod + Daiwa Luna 203 spooled with 30 lb powerpro with 2 foot 40 lb flourocarbon leader tied by an FG Knot.

The combo suits me perfectly for all fishing situations to the finest presentations to heaving 4 oz lead. Thanks to the Incredible bite transfer to these rods. Depending on the species and the terrain, I set the drag on the reel. I can throw a 1/8 oz lure, plugs, hard baits, soft baits, live bait, free lining live shrimp, Cast 4oz lead etc etc.

About Vendatta series of rods:

About Daiwa luna:

Hope that helps a little in your decisions.

Arun.
