Mosquito Lagoon has a state park that you reserve a camp spot on (i think $50) and they allow you to use their kayaks. You get a private island and has a good 1 mile paddle before you get to your campsite. lots of manatees, dolphins, reds, pompano, and if you go out at night, the bioluminescence of the water is fantastic!
It's only $10 per night. Reserve 7 days in advance
1) Can I beach a boat overnight?
2) Can we have a campfire?
3) Will there be anyone else on the island?
I stayed there for a three day fishing trip a month ago. Yes you can leave your boat overnight, they have small pits with a grill, there isn't anyone else on the island; although each campsite can only hold six people if I'm not mistaken. I camped at the Orange Island site, and it was just a cut out in the trees, a fire pit and a picnic table. Rangers require you bring your own firewood. I checked out a few other campsites while I was paddling around and they had a similar set up. I had a great time, I've never seen so many tailing red fish..it was epic. There was a few raccoons prowling though. I hung my food, water, and trash from a tree limb and had no problems. There was about a million muddy tracks on my yak the next morning from them trying to get into my bait.
