Hello everyone my name is Kevin I am a member of the East Coast Kayak Fishing Team. I am thinking about heading down your way to fish the Jacksonville IFA Redfish Tournament. Was wondering how the turn out is for this event and how many of you fish it. I have family that lives in Jacksonville and am trying to find out how far away from them the tournament is. I have also never fished for redfish or spotted trout but am always looking to try new species from my yak. Any information anyone can offer is greatly appreciated. Also if anyone that fishes this tournament wouldn't mind taking me out with them and allowing me to tag along as I'm just looking to do this for the experience.

Thanks in advance

I don't think a whole lot of folks around here fish that tourney. I remember looking at the results last year and it seems like around 50. You would be beter off fishing the classic, come in on Wednesday, prefish Thursday, Thursday Happy Hour, Fish Friday, Friday Evening Captains Meeting with Raffle, Saturday fishing and then the Awards with more raffle and 300-400 of just some good people!

You should have about 40 folks who fish the IFA tournament based upon last years turnout. Good tourney with a bunch of great people. I will be fishing it unless my plans change.

There should be a good turnout for the IFA, and will be fishing it for sure.

But if you really want to get the full Jville fishing experience during a better time of the year, then come fish the largest kayak tourney in the world, the JKF Classic!

But if you can swing doing both, that would be awesome as well!

top water plugs

1/8 and 1/4 oz jig heads

popping cork or other float rigs

spinner baits

gulps

weedless hooks

sinkers/beeds if you like a fish finder rig

Since it is a bait or artificial tourney, your best bet for success will be top water early morning and then throwing mud minnows or live shrimp on jig heads, keep it simple.

It depends on your fishing style. Red and trout are a lot like bass except they hang around oyster beds. Deff a 7 foot rod to make long casts cause reds spook easy. Like stated above jig heads and a top water plug. Whene you come down hit a takle store and they steer you in the right direction. And some braided line helps with abration since you will be fishing around shell bars. I like power pro 20 lb in case I hang a big red. And do some reserch on all thre species videos and stories help. Good luck man hope to see ya at the classic

Ok guys need some more help I spoke with my mother today about where she lives in Jacksonville and she said Mandarin I was wondering who if anyone is fishing that area and if there is even any spots in that area to fish. If not how far will I have to travel to fish with some of you. I'm gonna need as much help as possible finding fish and locations to fish. I'm also planning on arriving on Thursday morning between 10-12 and would like to fish sometime afternoon if anyone would be willing to take me out for some quick lessons in the area.

Thank you all so much can't wait for this tournament,
Kevin
