I decided I needed a small paddle. You know, the one that looks like a ping pong paddle. I wanted something for minor position corrections and pushing off from pilings while chasing sheepies. It needed to be small enough to handle one handed, but stout enough to push off from pilings, and whack a frisky gator. I decided to use some wood that I already had on hand. I laminated all the pieces with Smooth-on, which is an epoxy that I use to build my custom longbows. The center handle piece, and both blade edges are ipe, and the rest cypress. Didn't really know what dimensions I wanted, so I kinda went by instinct. The overall length is 22 1/2", and the max thickness is 7/8". I'll up date the photos as go along.

If I need to "whack a frisky gator" it needs a longer handle, or a trigger!

Nice looking project. I need to learn about that epoxy.

Yes they are glued together with a very good two part epoxy. The wood will break before the joints give.

Here is the finished product. The pliers are just for scale.

Beautiful work. Sorry but you wouldn't catch me with that on my kayak. I wouldn't want to ruin such a beautiful thing by banging it on oysters/shells/etc/

It turned out nice, but I built it out of scrap wood and only have a couple of hours in it. Thanks for the kind words!

I looked at your bows, now I know why that paddle looks so good. You do nice work.
