Here's some spoon flies I have been working on. Used the die-cut one's from Creative Feathers Fly shop in TX. Easy to use / tie and seem to have a nice wooble in a quick bathtub test. Can't want to try them this Mar./ April when I head down for a week.

Pretty much tied them per the patterns on there website to start and will modify as needed. Cut outs are 1" long. Used Diiachi #2546 salt water fly hooks I use for most of my tying (Followed instructions on bending). 5 min. epoxy and then 3 light coats of Hard as Hulls acyrlic head cement (Been using this stuff for a few years now and goes on super hard w/ a real glossy look). Tied 4 of each color (Still need to tie the purple one's), used chain bead eyes and a couple w/ small brass weight dumbell eyes, w/ weed guards on most.

Nice, the action is pretty good on those. I've tied some from their online pattern.

I have been tying those same ones for a couple of years now and they sure are neat with lots of action. Haven't used them much in the salt marshes but all the colors have caught some very nice smallmouth. In fact the first time I tried them, caught 3 smallies on 3 consecutive casts, all over 18" so I know they work. Hope to try them this winter on Reds -- have some tied in black.

Good luck and tight lines.

Seajay, I love it. Amazing what you can create from scrap. Leftovers are the mother of invention. Way to go.

I'm working on a couple of patterns for a flats fly swap on another forum and here's what I put together for the first batch. I decided to do a shrimp pattern. These are my DIY shrimp eyes in red.

Here's another rattle shrimp I knocked out today. EP tail with EP sparkle brush body. I have a 4mm rattle inside mylar tubing and I added a 30# weed guard.

Playing with some new materials I picked up tonight. The body is orange but lighting makes it look pink. I'm thinking I should've stuck with my plan to palmer a bunny strip instead of the EP brush.

I wanted to share this photo I took today of a dead Pogie I found in my boat when I got home today after a guide trip. Apparently it jumped into my bilge sump without me knowing. So I guess the Pogies(menhaden)are in!.. and spring is just about here. :sunny: When I looked at it I knew I had a great fly that resembled it that my my buddy Val(aka salted-fly here on the forum) ties up with Wig-Hair. Great stuff that sheds water on the 1st back cast unlike other similar materials that hold water to long while false casting. Maybe our friend Val-salted-fly can give us some tying instructions.... :thumbleft:
