Kayaked Castaway this morning at high tide and hooked up 3 small trout pretty quick on a lure and then headed over to a small cove stuckndamud suggested and got a 20" red on live mullet.

Tried to find some flounder and suddenly noticed it was getting kinda shallow so headed back to the dock only to bottom out about 50 yards from the inlet that the dock sits in. Luckily it was a sandy bottom so I pulled the kayak til' it got deeper. I am guessing that Castaway has good water depth for 2-3 hours before and after high tide but I am for sure gonna try it again.

Tomorrow morning I am supposed to meet up with Redfish Rob and Cap'n Roger so I dont even have to unload the kayak :)

 I already typed this earlier...but guess I forgot to "send" it

 Good Job on the catch!

Instead of using that launch...I prefer to drive across the ICW Bridge and use the Boat Ramp behind Ricks' bait and tackle. :thumbleft: (It allows unlimited fishing time and NO worries about shallow depth).

*If your not familiar...turn at the traffic light in front of Adventure Landing and follow it all the way around to the end.

:smoke:

I live in Isle of Palms right near that boat ramp and see so much boat traffic by the bridge I was not sure if it was safe to cross the ICW there. Might just go ahead and give it a try. I do see kayakers putting in on the SE corner by the bridge and fishing the marsh south of the bridge. Do you know if there is any good fishing there?

Thanks

Me and a few buddies discovered the fact that Castaway was a bad design a year or two ago. We had to have someone meet us at the Beach ramp and drive us across to our vehicles. Never go there on less than high tide.

Nice catches.

Hey Redfish Chaser.....Very nice post and pix and WTG on a good trip out of Castaway...

The Castaway launch area is another PERFECT example of how much money the COJ Parks and Recreation thows away by building ramps that are virtually useless!!

Redfish Chaser....I think you pegged it about right on the "window of time" that you can launch and fish in there.....I only fished out of there twice, and used the old "two hours before till 2 hours after High Tide", and it worked out OK....
Congrats on scoring some decent fish in there too!!
