I heard that they are down in Green Cove by the shands bridge. Thats the only place I have ever caught them. Does anybody else have another place?

Also does any body have a recipe for chum or a certain way to do things to attract them or better my odds of catching them?

I went down to Guana dam the other night to do some night fishing for trout and there were alot of people there cast netting for shrimp and there were alot of big jumbo shrimp being caught. My buddy went down there to catch some shrimp for ourselves and he came up with some big shrimp that were at least 5" inches long. You could give that a try down there at night with a cast net right off the shore. It would be alot closer than Green Cove depending on where you live. Hope you get the shrimp you are looking for.

I've used cat food a shrimp bate, just poke a few holes in the can or partially open the lid and toss it in. Then as an FYI, I normally tie a rope or string to the pull top tab, so I can retrieve that can prior to leaving. We use to catch 5 gallon buckets of nice size shrimp from Fulton Point (St. Johns River) before that area was overly developed. Sadly these days there just aren't as many locations, with rock & trash free sandy bottoms, that you can safely cast from at night, without fear of arrest or becoming a crime victim, as there was back in my beer drinking, stay up all night, younger days.

Hey Easy, hows the shrimp running at shands? Is it atleast 10 or more per cast? I usually do the Cat food and Shrimp meal like Gatorbite posted above. Plus I bring a lantern and hang it off the side of the bridge. Used to get the shrimp meal at Ace hardware. Not sure if they still sell it. Oh yeah my pops used to combine the cat food, shrimp meal and add flour to make it doughy. I'm too lazy to do all that tho.

Several of the Aces have shrimp meal as does Arlington Bait and Tackle. I actually got a fifty pound bag today from Westside Feed on 103rd. It was like 35 dollars whereas Ace and ABT wanted like 8 or 9 for a 5 pound bag. Typically I mix about 5 pounds of shrimp meal with 2 pounds of flower, add water, and make hamburger sized patties. Throw 4 or 5 patties off a dock in the lights, do this at 10 or so spots of the dock and by the time I get done with baiting the last spot, I start throwing. Caught 2 1/2 gallons of mostly bait to mediums with some large last week near BK and am trying San Marco tomorrow night.

We used to mix the meal with clay we dug up near the boat ramp in JB at beach, many years ago. Not sure if you can find that blue clay anymore..

We shrimped from a dock in San Marco last night. Lots of culling to get about 1 to 1 1/2 gallons of nice sized shrimp. We were averaging probably 25 a cast with about 6-8 keepers a throw.

That's good news. I shrimped from a friends Dock down near Brewers Landing, West tocoi on Friday. 10 lbs in 1.5 hours. Mediums to medium small. Sounds like they are from downtown to near Palatka. It was the best evening shrimping I've had, that's in about 6 years of trying a few times each season. One or two more weeks should be larges.

Fulton has small to medium shrimp right now.
Cops are getting anal about getting out of there by 9pm.
